English / Literature
Medicine is a communication profession. You'll write patient notes, research papers, and personal statements. You'll explain complex diagnoses to frightened patients. Strong writing and comprehension skills are not optional for a good doctor.Psychology
Understanding human behaviour, cognition, and mental health is increasingly central to medicine. Many medical school interviews test psychological awareness and empathy.A Language

Taking every science class available and nothing else. Medical schools want well-rounded humans, not science machines. A student with Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, and Philosophy is more interesting than one with Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths — assuming the science grades are strong.
Beyond Subjects
Course selection matters, but what you do outside the classroom matters just as much. Clinical reasoning programs, healthcare projects, volunteering, and sustained engagement with medicine are what transform a transcript into an application.
